Landscapes shaped by humans for centuries of mowing and animal grazing are called heritage communities or meadows.
The importance of heritage meadows lies primarily in their species richness. Wooded meadows or wood pastures, indicated by broad-crowned deciduous trees, can be found near old farmsteads. In this forest, you can see traces of grazing from a century ago that enabled the crowns of the oak trees to stretch out beautifully. The combined effect of partially cutting bushes and trees, mowing and grazing can promote the restoration of wooded meadows. In recent years, we have been pushing back brushwood to restore a light regime that would help wooded meadow species to return.
